I am a printmaker based in Cape Town, South Africa.
My work usually begins with a conscious thought before moving into a subconscious level in which it takes on it’s own life and dictates to me what should happened next. A starting point will sometimes be a headline from a newspaper article, a line from a song or poem, or my personal response to a conversation or event.
During the process of creation, this may evolve into a very different statement. I like to deal mostly with relationship issues relevant to the time and space in which I live. A wry humour exists in many of the pieces. I want the viewer to linger and look deeply to discover the visual clues that build up a thought, the soul of the piece, and ponder…
I love the demands and physicality of the etching process; the combination of technical precision and magical accidents and the contradiction of linear hardness and sensuous velvety softness of aquatints.
